These details come from Sega's official release-date announcement. Store availability and editions may differ by region.

A story spanning 50 years

The story follows Makoto Daito, born to an American father and Japanese mother. After hardship in the United States, Makoto travels to Japan and becomes entangled with smuggler Orpheus and his close companion Yu Shinjo. The narrative follows these relationships over half a century.

Sega has identified five settings and periods: Kokura in 1915, Kure in 1929, Osaka in 1943, Atami in 1951, and Shinjuku in 1965. Moving between eras lets RGG Studio show social and physical changes rather than treating the historical setting as a single backdrop.

How the combat works

The combat system gives direct control over Makoto's limbs through the controller's bumpers and triggers. That arrangement supports punches, kicks, blocks, grapples, and weapon interactions without relying on a single standard attack button. A restrained arm does not necessarily prevent the other arm or a leg from being used.

Hands-on reporting published by Xbox Wire describes fights in which players can parry, dodge, stun enemies, use improvised weapons, and respond differently to armed opponents. The system appears designed around player expression rather than one repeating combo.

Music and show-business mechanics

Music is part of Makoto's identity and progression. Announced footage shows him collecting sounds from his surroundings and combining them into music. Sega also describes show-business elements that place him in the role of a showman. The exact depth of composition, performance, and management systems remains to be seen.

Confirmed cast

The announced cast includes Yu Shirota, Dean Fujioka, Moeka Hoshi, Akio Otsuka, Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, Takaya Kuroda, Snoop Dogg, Tori Kelly, Ado, and others. Sega has also announced appearances connected with the late actors and performers Bunta Sugawara and Tupac Shakur; the company says Tupac's representation was created with his estate and without generative AI.

Why the project stands out

The most interesting element is not simply that the story lasts 50 years, but that combat, music, crime drama, and shifting historical locations all appear tied to Makoto's changing life. It carries RGG Studio's interest in dramatic relationships and physical street combat while adopting a control scheme and time scale unlike its established series.

Because the game has not launched, impressions should remain provisional. Trailers and demonstrations establish its premise and major mechanics, but final combat balance, exploration, performance, and side content can only be judged from the finished release.
