Samsung has just announced to start mass production of 4-bit 4TB SSD hard drives. Despite revealing 30TB SSDs and the world's largest SSDs with 100TB, these are products for businesses. 'New 4-bit SATA SSDs will bring a move to SSD capacity for users,' said Samsung's vice president of storage and marketing memory.'When we expand our products to many customer and business segments, 4-bit SSD products will quickly appear throughout the market.'.

SSDs are the first in the industry to use 4-bit V-NAND storage technology. QLC (quad-level cell) provides more storage capacity on the same storage space than 3-bit before and still has the same speed.

New hard drives must be cheaper to hope for more users.

The 4TB hard drives currently on the market only cost $100, but Samsung's 4TB 860 EVO SSD is 10 times the price, i.e. $1000. To make its 4TB SSD more widely used, Samsung needs to reduce product prices.

Samsung said it is looking for a 4-bit SSD to get the same speed as a 3-bit drive, the new drives will have a reading speed of 540MB/s and write 520MB/s. Currently the speed of EVO 4TB is 550MB/s and 520MB/s, respectively.

Besides the 4TB drive expected to appear later this year, Samsung will also introduce 1TB and 2TB DATA SSDs with a 3-year warranty, 2.5-inch size and release of M.2 NVMe drives for businesses.
