Samsung Features That Make People Wonder Why Other Phones Exist
Many people have been sticking with their Samsung phones for years. Every upgrade season, they consider their alternatives and always choose another Samsung. It makes them wonder why this keeps happening.
Sure, there are plenty of great phones out there that aren't made by Samsung. The Oppo Find X9 Pro, the Pixel line, and the OnePlus 15 all have impressive hardware. But with Samsung, it's the perfect combination of hardware, software, and features that makes it the best phone brand.
Vertical and horizontal folding screen phones
From foldable phones to flip phones, there's something for everyone
When the Note 20 Ultra launched, everything about the phone was great. It looked great, had a brilliant high-resolution display, and had the best camera array on any phone. The only downside was that it was too big to use with one hand.
Fortunately, when it comes time to upgrade, Samsung's foldable technology is mature enough to be practical. The Z Flip 6 has everything you could want: a compact device that fits in your pocket without sacrificing screen size. The cover screen supports most of what you need to do during work hours: calls, texts, music, widgets, and to-do apps. Anything that doesn't support it is handled by the GoodLock app.
If you want a bigger phone, Samsung is still the best foldable phone maker. While Google and OnePlus also make foldable phones, it's hard to beat Samsung's combination of hardware and custom software. The Z Fold 7 has a top-of-the-line chip, a great camera, and a tablet-sized, super-bright, stylus-enabled 8-inch display.
Samsung makes the phone with the best camera
The Ultra series has the best cameras on any phone
Samsung has one of the best smartphone cameras around. The Ultra series has always delivered impressive camera performance in both daylight and low light. With the S25 Ultra, Samsung has largely kept the same camera setup as the previous generation, and it still performs very well, producing sharp photos.
Furthermore, Samsung has cleverly integrated AI features to further improve the camera and Gallery app. Generative Edit is now faster and runs directly on the phone. You can move the subject, remove unwanted objects, and fill the background with realistic details, without waiting for uploads. Night mode captures more shadow detail with good image stabilization, allowing for handheld shots with just enough motion blur.
And it's not just the Ultra. Even on the Z Flip 6, the 50MP main camera still does a great job in good lighting, and night shots are still excellent with Night Mode turned on. If camera quality is your top priority, Samsung's combination of camera hardware and AI-powered software puts it ahead of the competition.
SmartThings App
Samsung's smart device ecosystem
The SmartThings app has been one of my favorites in recent years. If you have multiple Samsung devices in your home, this app makes it easy to manage them all from your phone.
In addition to Samsung devices, SmartThings is compatible with almost any smart home device—blinds, lights, thermostats, and more. The app runs most of its processes locally on your hub instead of the cloud, minimizing your reliance on an internet connection. Samsung Routines also handle automation very well. You can automatically turn off the lights when you start watching TV, and turn on the air conditioner when you get home.
When you use SmartThings with multiple Samsung devices, it becomes harder to switch to another brand and lose that level of integration.
Samsung Wallet
Innovative payment application
Samsung Wallet is more than just a place to store your credit cards. You can use it for contactless payments in over 30 countries, manage gift cards, travel passes, boarding passes, and even gym memberships all in one place. It also works seamlessly with Samsung watches, allowing you to make payments without pulling out or even pairing your phone.
What sets the app apart is its integration with Samsung Money through SoFi. Every transaction earns points, which you can use to earn rewards points on your linked card. The app is protected by Samsung Knox with biometric authentication for every payment, and your actual card number is never shared with merchants thanks to encryption technology.
There are plenty of reasons to use a digital wallet instead of swiping a credit card, and Samsung Wallet works really well. Once you've set up your cards, tickets, and vouchers here, switching to another platform means having to rebuild everything from scratch.
One UI is the best Android interface
Stable, polished, and feature-rich user interface with additional customization capabilities
Samsung has come a long way since the original Galaxy S series, which felt more like a gimmick than a practical tool. With One UI 8 , Samsung now offers a more polished experience that looks great without feeling cluttered. Recent updates have brought cleaner menus with dual-tone blur effects, redesigned apps like Gallery and My Files with better information density, and a new 90:10 split-screen option for power users.
There's also the Good Lock app, which lets you tweak almost everything about your phone's interface. You can change the look of your recent apps, customize your lock screen, modify your notification panel, and even adjust how your edge panels work. Bixby Routines (part of Modes and Routines) handles automations brilliantly. You can silence your phone during meetings, launch specific apps when you connect to your car, or change settings based on your location.
Over the years, One UI has evolved into one of the best Android skins out there. No one can match the number of features it offers, not even Google with its Pixel UI and Stock Android skin .
