Real-life photos of AMD Ryzen Zen 5 'Granite Ridge' CPU revealed
AMD's next-generation Ryzen CPUs, expected to be codenamed Granite Ridge and developed on the Zen 5 core architecture, are said to be about to enter mass production in time for a market launch during the buying season. Shop later this year.
The new Ryzen CPU line will be oriented by AMD as a landmark generation due to the switch to using a completely new Zen architecture. These Granite Ridge CPU models will be equipped with Zen 5 core architecture and come with a series of unprecedented technologies, with the foundation being an improved, more superior architecture.
Recently, the first real photos of AMD's next generation Ryzen "Granite Ridge" desktop CPU model with 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 5 core architecture were leaked by technology blogger turmeric @ExperteVallah.
The leaked image shows a standard AMD Ryzen CPU without SKU identifier and hidden QR code, but is mentioned to use an 8-core and 16-thread chip, with OPN ID 100-000001290-11. This could be our first look at the next generation AMD Desktop CPU lineup based on the Zen 5 core architecture and codenamed "Granite Ridge".
A quick glance shows that the AMD Zen 5 "Ryzen" Granite Ridge CPU has the same IHS as the existing Ryzen 7000 & Ryzen 8000G chips. This IHS design is called an 'octopus', and has all the capacitors on the outside of the IHS. This is an ES model so it's unclear whether the chip uses a solder or TIM-based interface between the IHS and the die, but high-end Ryzen CPUs have so far been gold-plated underneath the IHS to ensure performance. better heat transfer. The chip is manufactured in Malaysia in 2024.
AMD Zen 5 CPUs were also previously spotted in the Einstein@Home and LHC@home databases. It all points to the technical prototype possessing 8 cores, 16 threads, and this particular SKU has the following OPN string:
"AuthenticAMD AMD Eng Sample: 100-000001290-11_N [Family 26 Model 64 Stepping 0]"
The reason this CPU could be an AMD Zen 5 chip is because Family 24 is used for Zen 3 and Zen 4 chips. Zen 5 is said to be part of "Family 25".
We've seen some AMD Zen 5 "Granite Ridge" CPUs being shipped in shipping manifests recently. There are at least three models, including an 8-core variant and a 6-core variant. The 8-core variant is listed with a TDP of 170W, while the 6-core variant has a TDP of 105W. The 6-core variant also has an OPN code very similar to the model in the picture but the leak mentions that it is an 8-core and 16-thread variant. Early engineering prototypes are expected to have different configurations and specifications than the final retail variants, so whether it's an 8-core or 6-core chip doesn't matter much.
