The application is currently divided into 4 sections.
For You personalizes the list of 5 news that Google News thinks you want to read, along with some local articles or news (near where you live) chosen by the algorithm.
Headline combines the latest news items like US, World, Business, Tech. This section can be used to view articles in Full Coverage, which splits complex stories into articles from multiple sources and posts on Twitter and YouTube.
Favorites include topics from entertainment, news to academia. This section is suitable for selecting your favorite news source, saving Pocket post-style articles, saving locations and searching by text.
Newsstand is a new item added to Google News that allows subscribing to news from organizations that offer a monthly subscription on the web or print or pay a monthly fee to read paid articles. Newsstand organizations support the AMP standard, meaning that the page will display quickly and neatly.
