Microsoft updates to patch DirectX and SMB bugs that cause blue screens on Windows 11

This experimental update is part of Microsoft's monthly "C" update scheduled for March 2022. Users who install this update will get a preview of the patches that will be released on April 12 as part of the April Patch Tuesday patch.

Unlike regular Patch Tuesday updates, "C" experimental updates do not include security patches and are optional updates. Update "C" is often used to test bug fixes and performance improvements before release.

To install update KB5011563 you must go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. Since it's an optional update, Windows won't install it on its own until you click the Download now button.

You can also download and install experimental cumulative updates of Windows through the Microsoft Update Catalog.

As mentioned at the beginning, the biggest highlight of KB5011563 is fixing two stop errors that cause blue screens on Windows 11 in DirectX and SMB Server.

As Microsoft explains, KB5011563 "resolves stop error (0xD1. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LES_OR_EQUAL) in DirectX core component" and another issue "causes stop error 0x1E in SMB Server (srrv2.sys)".

This update also adds support for displaying three high-priority notifications simultaneously, a feature specifically designed for applications that send notifications for calls, reminders, or alarms using Use Windows notifications.

It also fixes an issue that could cause Microsoft OneDrive files to lose focus after being renamed and the Enter key pressed.

After installing KB50115563, Windows 11 will return the corresponding Settings page when searching for the word "widget".

What's New in Windows 11 Update KB5011563?

After installing update KB5011563, the version key of Windows 11 will be changed to 22000,593.

KB5011563 includes 26 quality patches and improvements including:

1. Addresses an issue that causes SystemSettings.exe to stop working.
2. Addresses an issue that increases Windows startup time. This issue occurs because the UI thread in the Network API stops responding when a 5G wireless wide area network (WWAN) device wakes up slowly.
3. Addresses an issue that causes Kerberos.dll to stop working in the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS). This occurs when LSASS processes concurrent user-to-user (S4U) user-to-user (U2U) service requests for the same user.
