Is it possible to use FaceTime on Windows?
Apple's FaceTime calling technology is one of the great features of the iPhone. Not long after it debuted on the iPhone, Apple also supported FaceTime for Mac. This allows users to make video calls between iOS devices and Macs. What about those who use PC? Can they use FaceTime on Windows?
Unfortunately for Windows users, there is no way to use FaceTime on Windows. Basically, FaceTime is a tool for video calling. There are many video calling applications for both Windows and Windows Phone, but there is no official FaceTime application for Windows.
FaceTime is not an open standard
In 2010, when introducing FaceTime at the company's Global Developers Conference, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said: "We will create standard boundaries starting tomorrow and we will Turn FaceTime into an open industry standard. ' That means anyone can create software compatible with FaceTime, opening up third-party developers the opportunity to create FaceTime-compatible software, including programs that run on Windows. (and possibly other platforms such as Android).
Although since then, there has been little discussion about making FaceTime an open standard. Actually, it seems that FaceTime will never become a platform standard. That's because Apple hasn't taken any action after years and also because the company considers FaceTime to be unique to Apple's ecosystem, they want to keep FaceTime to promote iPhone sales.
This means that Windows users cannot make FaceTime calls for iOS users.
Alternative applications for FaceTime on Windows
Although FaceTime does not work on Windows, there are some other software that offer similar video chat features and work on multiple operating systems. As long as two chat implementers use the same application, they can make video calls, regardless of the operating system used such as Windows, Android, macOs or iOS.
