Facebook recently announced Messenger's 2017 Year in Review , whereby this chat application made a total of 17 billion video chats, double the number of last year.

Facebook launched the group video chat feature on Messenger last December and turned Messenger into a direct competitor of similar apps such as Skype or WhatsApp (also owned by Facebook).

Messenger is still blooming in 2017

Microsoft did not give a summary for Skype and Apple did not share this data on FaceTime - integrated video chat application on iOS and macOS. So it is difficult to compare or make conclusions about the past year, what is the winning name. But compared to Messenger itself, doubling last year was an impressive achievement.
