When playing Playstation 4 (PS4), you may encounter problems that affect your gaming experience, such as hardware or software errors that are difficult to detect. A common solution is to factory reset the device.

Factory resetting your PS4 helps ensure that your system is running smoothly. Before doing this, make sure to back up your data as this process will erase all information on your device.

How to factory reset PS4

Method 1: Reset the device normally

Step 1:  Log in to PS4, go to Settings , select PlayStation Network/Account Management .

Step 2: In the Activate as Your Primary PS4  window, select Deactivate and click Yes .

Step 3:  Sign back in with your account and go to Settings again.
Step 4: Find the Initialization  optionin Settings and select Initialize PS4 . This option will erase the hard drive, including downloaded games, saved data, and purchases, restoring the PS4 to its original factory state.

Here, you'll also see the Restore Default Settings option . This will erase your saved settings data and return your PS4 to factory settings, but it won't erase your hard drive.

Step 5:  On the Initialize PS4 screen, select Full and wait a few hours for the factory reset process to complete.

Method 2: Reset the device in safe mode

If you encounter software problems or errors that prevent you from accessing Settings and factory reset, you can enter Safe Mode to access the options. Follow the instructions below:

Step 1:  Turn off the PS4 and select Safe Mode instead of Rest Mode .

Step 2:  Press and hold the PS4 power button until you hear the first beep, then another beep before the console enters Safe Mode.

Step 3: Select the Reset  option. You can select Initialize PS4 as instructed above to factory reset the device.

Step 4:  Select Quick or Full and wait for the reset process to complete.
