In businesses, printers are often connected to the local network, but are less concerned about security or software updates. Therefore, it is one of the favorite "prey" of hackers.
HP's move comes after the Bugcrowd security service announced a "2018 State of Bug Bounty" report that revealed a flaw in a printer targeted by exploits. In the past 12 months alone, the number of vulnerabilities / vulnerabilities detected on the printer has increased by 21%.
According to the terms of the program, depending on the severity of the discovered vulnerability, the bonus may range from $ 500 to $ 10,000.
HP said researchers will be offered remote access to an Enterprise Multifunction multi-function printer and their mission is to find software-level hazards including CSRF, RCE and XSS.
The prize will still be awarded if the research vulnerability discovered by the researcher has been discovered within the company.
HP's award-winning vulnerability hunting program will last indefinitely. Currently, the program only applies to printers, but HP said it is also planning to expand its line of personal computers.
