How to set different resolutions for multiple monitors on Windows 10

When connecting multiple monitors to a Windows 10 computer, you may sometimes experience stuttering or blurry images due to mismatched resolutions. Below are instructions on how to set a separate resolution for each monitor to resolve this issue.

When connecting multiple monitors to Windows 10, if the resolutions between them are similar or only slightly different, everything will work smoothly. 

 

How to set different resolutions for multiple monitors on Windows 10

Step 1 Connect an external monitor to your Windows 10 computer via DisplayPort or VGA . Then, click Action Center > Project to select the appropriate display mode.

Here, you can choose:

- PC Screen Only – Displays only on the main screen.

- Duplicate – Copies content from the main screen to the secondary screen.

- Extend – Expand the workspace across both screens.

- Second Screen Only – Displays only on the secondary screen.

Step 2 :  After connecting the monitor, select the monitor you want to adjust. Press Windows + I to open Settings .

Step 3 : Go to System > Display . Click Identify to identify the screen with the highest number.

Step 4:  Scroll down to Advanced display settings . Select the resolution under Resolution . It's recommended to use the Recommend option if available. Click Apply to save the changes.

After changing the resolution, the system will ask you whether you want to Keep changes or Revert . If you don't select one within a few seconds, the system will automatically undo the change.

You can also use  ScreenRes  to restore the old resolution, which helps preserve the icon layout on the screen.

After adjusting the resolution, try disconnecting the external monitor and then reconnecting it to check the result.

Resolution directly impacts the viewing experience. The correct configuration results in sharper and smoother images. Note that the adjustment methods differ significantly between Windows and macOS.
