What is the Game DVR?

Game DVR or Game Bar is a gaming feature built into Windows 10. This specific feature allows you to record your gaming sessions, connect with friends, monitor system resources, listen to songs while playing games, etc. In simple words, Game Bar is a handy feature for many gamers as it allows quick access to some of the most used features.

Depending on the configuration, the Game Bar may consume quite a lot of CPU resources. As you might have guessed, CPU resource usage can have a negative impact on gaming performance. This is especially true for simulation games because they rely heavily on CPU resources.

So, if the Game Bar's CPU usage is high and is causing a problem, follow the steps below to reduce the Game DVR's CPU usage in Windows 10.

Fix Game Bar or Game DVR errors using a lot of CPU

One of the main reasons for the high DVR usage of the Game DVR is the service broadcast. When the broadcast service is turned on and running, it will record the game in the background and allow you to stream to streaming services, if needed.

As you might expect, recording a game uses a lot of CPU resources. Especially if the recording quality is high. Therefore, if you do not use the broadcast feature, disabling this service in the Game Bar will reduce CPU usage.

1. First, open the PC Settings application with the Win+ shortcut I. Once opened, go to Gaming> Captures page .

2. Here, on the right page, switch the switch below Record in the background while I'm playing a game to Off.

3. Next, switch the switch under Record audio when I record a game to the Off position . You can see this option in the Recorded Audio section .

4. After that, go to the Broadcasting page on the left panel. Now, toggle the switches in Record audio when I broadcast and Use camera when I broadcast to the Off position .
