How to record audio files in Windows 10

Use Voice Recorder

Go to the search bar in the lower left corner of the Windows 10 screen, next to the Start button . Use it to search for an application called Voice Recorder.

The application will appear in the search results field. Click on it to launch the application. This is a very simple program, using a large button in the center to start recording.

While recording, you can press the Pause button below the record button to pause the recording and then press the Pause button again to continue recording.

You will also notice a bookmark button denoted by a flag icon. This button is used to highlight certain parts of an important sound recording. You can then use these markers to locate parts of the audio file easily.

When the recording is completed, touch the middle button again to finish. The sound clips will be saved.

The saved clip will appear in the list in the upper left corner of the screen. You can also share, cut, delete or rename files using the options available near the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately, this recording app doesn't capture audio coming from inside a computer, such as a song played on YouTube. You can only record external sounds like voice.

To record sounds from files played on your computer, you can use the following method.

Use the Game Bar

Play the video or audio file on the computer you want to record and pause the file right before the part you want to record.

Press Win + G to open the Game Bar. This feature is used to record gaming sessions but can easily record any activity on other screens, such as video or audio files.

Click the white circle button on the Game Bar and start playing the audio file. The program will start recording automatically. Click the green square button to stop recording after the audio has finished playing.

The recording will be saved in MP4 format in the Video section of file explorer inside the Captures folder. This file will have the audio you want to record and its video.

To convert it into a pure audio file, you will need to use Any Video Converter (or VLC). It is a free, downloadable and widely used program that allows you to convert almost any audio or video file into any other playable format.

After installing and starting the Any Video Converter program, upload the recorded clip and convert it into an MP3 file or any other audio format.

Download a new recording and use it any way you like.

Both of the above methods can be used to create recordings from external sources, such as voice recordings or from video files, MP3s played on computers. Although the second method is not very simple, it can be used as a reliable way to obtain clear and uninterrupted recordings of your favorite songs and movies.
