How to install Windows on WinPE - Fast installation speed, limited errors
Among the ways to install Windows, installing Win in the WinPE environment is chosen by many technical people. The speed of installing Windows this way is quite fast, it doesn't take as much time as when you install via USB or CD/DVD. Even if users cannot access the system, they can still install Windows as usual. In particular, during the computer installation process, there will be few Windows installation errors, or 100% full disk errors on the system. The article below will guide you how to install Windows on WinPE, which can be applied from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
Instructions for installing Windows on WinPE
Before installing we need to create a multi-function USB boot. You can refer to the versatile boot creation tools below.
Prepare the Windows ISO file you want to install. Then you do the following to install Windows.
Step 1:
We plug the USB boot into the computer and access the BIOS interface. Depending on the device, there will be different ways to access the BIOS. You can refer to the article below to know the BIOS shortcut on your computer.
By default, when accessing the BIOS, it will boot from the hard drive, but you choose to boot from USB boot to proceed.
Step 2:
Access the hard drive on the computer and then format the hard drive where you want to install Windows . In the File Type section, select NTFS , uncheck Quick Format.
Step 3:
Click on the DLC Boot icon then select Disk Tools then select the BootICE tool .
Step 4:
Next, we will load MBR and PBR for the installation hard drive partition formatted above. Click on Physical Disk , then click on the partition to select installation, then click on Process MBR and select Windows NT 5.x/ 6.xMBR . Finally click Install / Config to proceed.
Here we will choose the latest version, Windows NT 6.X MBR , to use.
Step 5:
Switch to the new interface and click on Process PBR , select the hard drive partition to install, select Install / Config and click OK to install.
Step 6:
In this step, users will have 2 ways to do it: mount it to the drive to install directly from the exe file or use WinNTsetup included in USB BOOT.
Method 1: Install directly from file
We right-click on the ISO file and select Mount as ImDisk Virtual Disk . A virtual drive containing the Win installer will appear. Then proceed to install Windows as usual.
Method 2: Use WinNTsetup to install Windows
Step 1:
First, users also need to right-click on the ISO file and select Mount as ImDisk Virtual Disk . Next click on the DLC BOOT icon and select System . In the list click on WinNTSetup software .
Step 2:
WinNTsetup interface appears, click Windows Vista/7/8/2008/2012 if installing Windows 7 or higher. In the Select location of the install.wim file section , click the Search button to find the install.win file or install.esd file in the virtual drive.
Step 3:
After selecting the file in the interface below the Select localization of the installation driver section , click the Search button to select the Windows installation partition.
Next, check the Patch UxTheme.dll to allow unsigned Themes option . Click on the Tweaks button for advanced options if you want, or you can skip. Click Setup to proceed with the installation process.
If a message appears asking the user to choose boot mode using BootICE or BootSect with newer versions of WinNTsetup, select BootICE mode.
Finally, wait for the Windows installation process to complete.
