CorelDRAW can open or import an SVG, edit its vector shapes, fills, strokes and text, then save a working CDR copy or export a new SVG. Preserve the original file, because imported SVG structure varies: groups, clipping paths, masks, CSS styling, fonts and linked images may not translate exactly.

Open or import the SVG
Use File > Open when the SVG should become the current document. Use File > Import when you want to place the SVG inside an existing CorelDRAW document with a chosen page size, color mode or other content.
- Start CorelDRAW and create a document if you are importing into an existing page.
- Select File > Import or press the configured Import shortcut.
- Choose SVG — Scalable Vector Graphics in the file-type filter if necessary.
- Select the file and choose Import.
- Click to place it at a specific size and position, or press Enter to place it using the default import behavior.

Inspect the SVG before editing
- Open the Objects docker or inspector and examine layers, groups and clipping objects.
- Check the page and artwork size against a known dimension.
- Zoom in and inspect curves, gradients, transparency, masks and line caps.
- Confirm whether images are embedded or linked.
- Look for substituted fonts or text converted to curves.
- Compare the import with the original SVG in a current web browser.
SVG is an XML-based vector format, but it can also contain raster images, text, filters and style rules. “Vector file” does not guarantee that every element remains a simple editable curve.
Unlock and ungroup only what you need
If an object cannot be selected, it may be on a locked layer or inside a locked group. In the Objects docker, unlock the relevant layer or object. Menu names such as Object > Lock, Unlock or older Arrange paths vary by CorelDRAW release.
Select the imported group and use Ungroup once, then inspect the result. Repeat only when necessary. Ungrouping everything immediately can produce hundreds of loose objects, destroy a useful hierarchy and make clipping paths difficult to manage.

Save a working CDR file
Select File > Save As and save a CDR copy. This preserves CorelDRAW-specific editability better than repeatedly overwriting the SVG. Use a new filename so the source remains available for comparison.
For shared work, record the CorelDRAW version, fonts and any linked assets. A newer CDR file may not open in an older release without saving to a compatible format, and unsupported effects may be flattened or altered.
Export the edited artwork as SVG
- Select the objects to export, or confirm that only the intended artwork is on the page.
- Choose File > Export.
- Select SVG and enter a new filename.
- Review the SVG export options offered by your CorelDRAW version, including text, styling, image embedding and precision.
- Export, then open the result in at least two modern browsers and, when relevant, the target website or application.

Choose the right text option
Keeping text live makes it searchable, accessible and easier to update, but recipients need the correct font and browsers can render fonts differently. Converting text to curves preserves the shape without the font file, but the words are no longer selectable as text and the SVG may become larger. For a website, prefer live text or a licensed web font when semantics and accessibility matter.
Common problems
Colors change
SVG is commonly used in RGB workflows. If the CorelDRAW document is CMYK or uses spot colors, browser output can differ. Compare color-management settings and export a web-appropriate RGB version when the destination is a screen.
Artwork looks clipped or incomplete
Inspect clipping paths, masks and effects in the Objects docker. Do not delete an apparently empty object until you confirm it is not controlling a clip or transparency.
The SVG becomes much larger
Look for embedded high-resolution bitmaps, excessive nodes, duplicated invisible objects and text converted to curves. Simplify deliberately and compare the result after each change.
The file looks correct in CorelDRAW but not in a browser
Some application-specific effects do not have an exact SVG equivalent. Replace them with simpler supported vector effects or rasterize only the affected appearance at an appropriate resolution, then test again.
