Google Maps deploys Live View - an augmented reality (AR) walk through the phone's rear camera
In the Pixel 3 launch, Google introduced a new feature for Google Maps called Live View, an augmented reality (AR) walking feature via the phone's rear camera. This feature has been widely deployed for many users of Maps AR services.
Directions are determined using Google's Position Positioning System, which is then displayed as an arrow and annotating information to the 'real world'. Below the screen is a traditional map so users can know their current location.
Currently, Google has only implemented Live View directions on many Pixel phones and is expanding this feature on Android and iOS operating systems.
Live View works on all Android handsets that support ARCore and iOS that support ARKit. This feature is mainly used for pedestrians.
To use Live View, you select a waypoint in Google Maps, then click on the walking directions option and finally click the Live View option at the bottom of the screen to be able to see the way with the phone's camera. Enclosed with real-time visual orientation.
