Google Launches Mixboard: AI Tool to Create Creative Moodboards from Ideas
Google has just introduced a new experimental AI tool called Mixboard , which the company describes as 'a new way to visualize ideas' .
Mixboard offers an 'open canvas' combined with artificial intelligence (likely based on a version of Gemini), and Google says it can help users brainstorm ideas for almost anything, from home decor to new products.
Users can start a project by entering a text command or choosing a pre-made template. You can add your own images, or create an illustration directly with a description like: 'show me Memphis style cups, bowls, plates' or 'show me cute bulging-eyed birds' .
Mixboard also lets you edit moodboards using natural language to change or combine images, thanks to a new photo editing model called Nano Banana . The tool can generate text based on images already in the board, and offers one-touch options like 'regenerate' to quickly create different versions of an idea.
At the same time, Google also expanded many other AI features:
- Conversational editing in Google Photos : Previously only available on the Pixel 10, it's now rolling out to many Android users in the US. This feature allows for photo editing by typing or speaking commands, with the Gemini model handling the complex processing. However, it requires meeting a few conditions such as being over 18, in the US, turning on Face Groups and location.
- AI Mode in Google Search : Just added global Spanish support. AI Mode uses a 'query fan-out' technique to run multiple searches related to subtopics, then aggregate them into a single answer.
Mixboard is now in public beta in the US. You can try it out at labs.google/mixboard and join the official Discord community to give direct feedback to the team.
