Egypt's 7000-year-old City May Shed Light on the Earliest

Archaeologists in Egypt discovered the ruins of an ancient city and an adjacent cemetery dating from 7000 to 5.3 BC. According to a statement by the Archaeological Department, this site may have originated from the first dynasty of Egypt.

This discovery was made in Sohag province, and is 400 meters from King Seti I temple in Abydos city.

The ruins of huts, stone tools and pottery can be found, showing the city using forces and labor tools to build graves for the royal family.

The cemetery has 15 large tombs, according to Hany Aboul Azm, head of the Central Administration for Ancient Artifacts.

Why Egypt Matters

This discovery has special significance because it can provide insight into Abydos, one of Egypt's oldest cities. Based on previous studies, Abydos is considered the capital of ancient Egypt at the end of the Predynastic period.

" The size of the graves discovered in the larger cemetery compared to the royal tombs in Abydos dates back to the First Dynasty, demonstrating the importance of the buried people here and the high social status. in their early history of ancient Egypt ".

According to Yasser Mahmoud Hussein, the leader of this archaeological mission, the graves are distinguished by many 'mastabas' - an ancient Egyptian grave type made of mud bricks. They are rectangular and have steep edges and flat roofs.

Mahmoud Afify said he was happy that the discovery was made by an Egyptian archaeological team, not by some international archaeological organization.
