Windows 10 Version 2004 ISO: Features and Archived Download Info

Windows 10 version 2004, also called the May 2020 Update or 20H1, is no longer a current release. The ISO link once associated with this article is not a permanent download. Microsoft’s current tools normally provide the release they presently support, not version 2004.

What Windows 10 version 2004 introduced

Version 2004 was a larger feature update than version 1909. Notable changes included:

• Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2);
• a cloud-download option for Reset this PC;
• the ability to rename virtual desktops;
• Windows Hello PIN sign-in in Safe Mode;
• improved Bluetooth pairing notifications for supported devices;
• updated Windows Search indexing behavior;
• more control over restarting registered applications after sign-in;
• GPU temperature reporting in Task Manager on supported graphics hardware.

The original article referred to CPU temperature in Task Manager; the built-in addition was GPU temperature reporting, and it was not available for every graphics device.

Can you still download the version 2004 ISO?

Do not expect an old direct link to work. Microsoft-generated ISO URLs expire, and Media Creation Tool changes over time. An ISO found on an unofficial mirror may be modified even if its filename looks genuine.

Historical minimum requirements are not a recommendation

Microsoft listed a 1 GHz processor or SoC, 1 GB RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit, DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM 1.0 driver, an 800 × 600 display, and 32 GB of storage as baseline requirements around this release. A computer that merely meets those figures may perform poorly and may lack enough free space for updates and applications.

Before installing any operating system, verify the PC manufacturer’s driver support, available storage, firmware mode, required applications, and backup. A clean installation can remove all files and programs from the selected disk.

If a legacy environment requires version 2004

• Use installation media retained by your organization or another source whose integrity can be independently verified.
• Match the correct language, edition, and processor architecture.
• Keep the unsupported system isolated from untrusted networks.
• Do not use it for sensitive browsing or personal accounts.
• Plan a migration to supported software and hardware.
