How to Create an AI Character With Meta AI Studio

Overview

Meta AI Studio lets you design a custom AI character and interact with it through supported Meta experiences. You can define the character's personality, choose a name and profile image, and refine responses after testing the conversation.

Before you start

Make sure the AI character creation feature is available in your region and account. Menu names may differ as Meta updates Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and AI Studio.

Step 1: Open AI chats

Open Instagram and go to Messages. Select the compose icon, choose AI chats, and then select Create. If the option is missing, update the app and check whether the feature is available for your account.

Step 2: Choose a custom AI character

Browse the available characters, then select Custom AI character. Enter a detailed description of the personality, expertise, communication style, boundaries, and purpose you want the character to have.

Step 3: Add the character details

Enter a clear name and edit the public description. Select the profile-image option to upload or generate an avatar. Review the preview and regenerate or adjust the image until it matches the character concept.

Step 4: Test and improve the responses

Start a conversation with the new character and test several realistic prompts. Use the edit or feedback controls beside a response to improve tone, accuracy, and behavior. Continue refining the instructions until the character responds consistently.

Privacy and quality tips

Do not enter sensitive personal, financial, or confidential business information. Clearly describe topics the character should avoid, review generated responses for accuracy, and disclose that it is an AI character when sharing it with other people.
