70,000 batteries in HP laptops are recalled
The world's largest computer maker has received two notices about battery overheating and inactivity or fire, causing minor property damage even though no one has been injured.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said HP voluntarily conducted battery exchanges for nine Pavilion models, nine Compaq Presario models, two HP-branded models and an HP Compaq model sold for about a month. August 2007 to March 2008.
HP recommends that users check if their device is among the most at-risk products (see here) to join its exchange program.
At the end of last year, Sony had to replace more than 100,000 batteries because of overheating, of which 32,000 batteries were equipped for HP computers.
