Windows Server has an urgent patch to fix Remote Desktop errors
Usually at the beginning of the year and the end of the new year, major technology companies will not release operating system updates. However, Microsoft has just released an urgent update to fix a bug on Windows Server that leads to connectivity and performance problems of the Remote Desktop feature.
"Today (January 4, 2022), Microsoft released an Out-of-band (OBB) update to address issues that cause Windows Server to experience black screens, slow logins, and sluggish processing speeds. ", Microsoft announced. "You may not be able to access the server using Remote Desktop. In some cases, the server stops responding."
Affected platforms include: Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
This update tagged with KB5010196 will not be offered through Windows Update and will not automatically install on affected systems.
You can download KB5010196 from the Microsoft Update Catalog page for Windows Server 2019.
Meanwhile, there is currently no patch available for Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2012 R2 platforms. Microsoft is working on a workaround and will roll it out in the coming days.
Although it's just the beginning of the year, Microsoft has been working very hard. On the first day of the new year, the Microsoft Exchange system encountered an error because the year value changed beyond the server's processing capacity. This caused Microsoft to quickly launch a solution to fix it.
In 2021, Microsoft is also struggling to constantly release patches. Besides periodic patches, many emergency patches have been released by the software giant. The total number of security holes fixed by Microsoft in 2021 reaches nearly 900.
