Windows Lite officially disappeared?

Although Windows Lite is available, information about this operating system has always been a mystery that has not been revealed by Microsoft.

Windows Lite is known to be a shortened version of Windows compared to the current Windows 10 for dual-screen laptops and Chromebook-like devices. Despite being touted, information about this operating system has always been a mystery that has not been revealed by Microsoft. But now it's not just that, Windows Lite has completely lost!

In a series of recent Windows tweets, Gustave Monce has revealed a list of current versions of Windows running Windows Core OS and it is easy to see the absence of Lite.

The list includes:

  1. Windows IoTOS (Microsoft.IoTOS)
  2. Windows IoTEdgeOS (Microsoft.IoTEdgeOS)
  3. Holographic (Microsoft.Holographic)
  4. Factory OS (Microsoft.FactoryOS)
  5. Factory OS Holographic (Microsoft.FactoryOSHolographic)
  6. Factory OS Andromeda Device (Microsoft.FactoryOSAndromeda)
  7. WindowsCoreHeadless OS (Microsoft.WindowsCoreHeadless)
  8. Windows Core (Microsoft.WindowsCore)
  9. Hub OS (Microsoft.HubOS)
  10. Andromeda OS (Microsoft.AndromedaOS)
  11. Polaris (Microsoft.Polaris)
  12. ModernPC (Microsoft.ModernPC)

In the tweet, Gustave Monce also officially confirmed that Lite is no longer available:

Although the name Lite was officially removed, it also seems to have been renamed ModernPC, a Windows version that Microsoft mentioned about security, flexibility and ease of updating.

According to another tweet, Gustave added that Microsoft Lite and Microsoft Centaurus (dual-screen laptop operating systems) will be merged into one under the name ModernPC mentioned.

This is quite interesting and very desirable because these two operating systems are aimed at different users, one in a simple and easy-to-use way, one in the professional direction that emphasizes on the user. Let's wait and see how Microsoft will reconcile them in the future.
