Senior analyst Jay Chou of IDC said, although the computer industry has made great efforts, the demand for the past few years has not increased significantly beyond the purpose of serving office work, it is also is the reason to make PC different from other devices. As a result, the lifespan of a computer continues to increase as users tend to replace newer computers, resulting in limited market growth.
However, the future picture of the PC industry will not only be a gray. According to IDC, the total number of PCs shipped next year is expected to decrease by 4% before a slight increase is made. At that time, the number of PC shipments will reach more than 300 million units and equivalent to the 2008 figures. For developing markets that are expected to be the main growth area of the PC industry, the PC growth is also expected to decline in 2014.
Last month, analyst Canalys also predicted that worldwide tablet shipments next year will account for 50% of total PCs in general, including the laptop and desktop product segment.
