Sony announces today's highest resolution image sensor for smartphones
The new IMX586 image sensor for Sony smartphones with resolutions up to 48 MP (8,000 x 6,000 pixels), the highest in the world today promises to bring a leap in image quality.
The IMX586 is also the smallest 0.8-micron pixel sensor on the market today. This helps the size of the event link be reduced to only half of the product with the same resolution.
Image quality is more than just adding more megapixels. With small sized pixels, this can be counterproductive to make images noise (noise) when shooting under low light conditions.
The technology for exposure control and signal processing features directly integrated by Sony into the sensor provides 4 times more light sensitivity than traditional sensors.
The IMX586 allows for more sensitive captures using the Quad Bayer color filter strip, folded adjacent to 2x2 pixels of the same color. When shooting in low-light conditions, the adjacent 4-pixel system will combine to improve brightness and reduce noise for the picture.
Sony's new 48 MP image sensor will provide good support for intensive imaging purposes, especially digital zoom.
As expected, the IMX586 image sensor will be released by Sony in September for about $ 27 / unit. It is likely that early next year they will appear on smartphones but it is not known which smartphone will use this advanced product first.
