With the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra, users might consider upgrading to one of the best Android phones ever.

So should users buy the Galaxy S25 Ultra now or wait for the super-thin Galaxy S25 Edge? Tom's Guide has analyzed these two smartphones.

Why wait for the Galaxy  S25 Edge?

In fact, the Galaxy S25 Edge was only briefly revealed at the Samsung Unpacked event. Accordingly, this product will be extremely thin and will likely be launched this year.

Samsung claims this is "our most advanced technology in a design that is elegant, powerful and unlike anything you've ever seen before."

Rumors say the "super product" will be 6.4mm thick while the Galaxy S25 Ultra is up to 8.2mm thick. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be 5.5mm thick.

As planned, the Galaxy S25 trio will be officially sold on February 7. As for the Galaxy S25 Edge, they will launch in June this year, in time for the Unpacked event in the summer, which usually focuses on foldable screen smartphones.

Another leaker predicts that the Galaxy S25 Edge will launch in April. The ultra-thin smartphone will use the Exynos 2400 chip instead of the latest Qualcomm processor. The Exynos chip is expected to be inferior to Qualcomm's chip but will likely cost less.

On the software side, the flagship will run One UI 7 and get access to the Galaxy's latest AI features. The slimmer phone will have more RAM and Qi2 wireless charging.

It's also worth noting that the Galaxy S25 Edge only has two rear cameras instead of the Galaxy S25 Ultra's four. It's likely that the Galaxy S25 Edge will only have one main camera and one ultra-wide-angle camera.

As for price, it's unclear where Samsung will place the Galaxy S25 Edge in the lineup. The phone is expected to start at $650 or $710 for the 256GB version.

Another theory suggests that the Galaxy S25 Edge will sit between the Galaxy S25 Plus and the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with a price tag of nearly $1,000.

Why choose Galaxy S25 Ultra?

The biggest plus point of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is that it's already available. We know for sure that the Galaxy S25 Ultra has more cameras and an S Pen, a feature that the Galaxy S25 Edge may not have.

Galaxy S25 Ultra launches with Samsung One UI 7.

The 256GB version of the Galaxy S25 Ultra starts at VND 30.99 million and increases to VND 41.79 million for the 1TB version.

Design-wise, this year's Galaxy S Ultra ditches the sharp corners for a softer, more rounded look. The phone is slightly larger than last year's model, with a 6.9-inch display. Like Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max, it's a big phone. If you need a large, premium smartphone, Samsung's latest has you covered.

The biggest hardware upgrades include a new 50MP ultra-wide camera and Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip paired with 12GB of RAM.

In benchmark testing, the Galaxy S25 Ultra "beat" the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the latest Android smartphones, including the OnePlus 13.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra lasted 17 hours and 15 minutes in our battery test - just a hair behind the iPhone 16 Pro Max, putting the flagship in the top spot on our list of phones with the longest battery life.

The biggest difference is in the software. The Galaxy S25 Ultra launches with Samsung One UI 7, Samsung's Android skin, which essentially integrates more AI tools across the entire system. This includes deeper integration of Google's Gemini, which is aimed at the future of AI.

Galaxy S25 Edge vs Galaxy S25 Ultra: Which one should you choose?

If the pricing rumors are true and you want to save money, the Galaxy S25 Edge will likely have access to Galaxy AI features for a lower price than the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

If you want a smartphone with top performance or a great camera, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a better choice. And the S Pen will still be exclusive to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
