Sharp produces ultra-high resolution IGZO screens for laptops
Laptops that use 1080p high-definition screens have appeared quite popular since last year. Some manufacturers even equip their products with a higher resolution screen than this full HD standard like the Retina MacBook Pro (15-inch and 13-inch versions), Google's Chromebook Pixel and Kirabook of Toshiba.
However, Sharp, a Japanese technology company, still wants to overcome that limit when it recently introduced a new laptop with an ultra-high resolution IGZO screen. IGZO displays consume less power than traditional LCDs, and because of the nature of the technology used to produce them, the manufacturer is easier to cram more pixels to help score density. photos are higher than traditional screens.
Sharp is also rumored to be the screen producer for the next iPhone generation and some rumors also suggest that the iPhone 6 will use IGZO screens.
The new MacBook Pro promises to use Sharp's high-resolution screen.
Sharp said it is planning to produce three types of IGZO monitors this year, including:
- 11.6 inch version with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
- 14 inch version with 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution.
- 15.6 inch version with 3200 x 1800 pixel resolution.
Thus the smallest screen version will give 253 ppi pixel density (pixels per inch - the number of pixels per square inch), while the 14-inch model has a 262-ppi pixel density, 15.6-inch screen pixel density is 235 ppi.
The high-resolution screen laptops besides bring benefits to users, it still has limitations. These restrictions are not on the screen itself but in the current Windows applications. Laptops using Windows 8 with full screen applications on the Windows Store tend to scale well on high-resolution screens.
However, the old Windows-based Windows application that was previously developed is another story. Although Microsoft provides tools for users to adjust DPI settings for text and graphics when displayed with too small icons on a high-resolution screen, many applications are not designed to take advantage of the capabilities. this. Therefore, many applications are still only displayed with very small icons on the screen.
Sharp said it plans to produce a new IGZO screen in June.
