Samsung reclaims the 'throne' from Apple
Samsung has been surpassed by Apple since September 2023, but thanks to the Galaxy S24 - a smartphone model equipped with many AI functions - the company has regained its form. According to research firm Counterpoint Research, in February, the Korean electronics company sold 19.69 million smartphones, accounting for 20% of the global market share, beating Apple. 'Apple' sold 17.41 million iPhones in the same period, accounting for 18% of the market share.
Analysts say Samsung's comeback is based on strong sales in the US and Europe. Kim Rok Ho, researcher at Hana Securities, said that this is encouraging and the Galaxy S24 received good feedback from these two markets.
In Europe, Samsung leads with 34% market share. In addition, in the US - Apple's 'home turf', the company also recorded a skyrocketing market share, from 20% in January to 36% in February. Meanwhile, the iPhone manufacturer's market share decreased from 64% to 48%.
For the whole year, for the first time in 13 years, Samsung lost the smartphone throne to Apple in 2023. According to market research firm IDC, Apple held 20.1% of the market share last year, while Samsung had 19.4%. , down from 21.7% in 2022.
To reverse the situation, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 at the beginning of the year, equipped with a series of AI features and improved cameras. Data shows that as of the end of February, the company had sold 6.53 million devices around the world. AI features on S24 include real-time translation of 13 languages during calls, circle to search.
