Microsoft releases major update for Windows 11 Files app: Redesigned logo, new features and better performance
Although there are many third-party file managers for Windows 11, Files is still a prominent name with a design similar to the original interface of the operating system, supporting a series of convenient features and being updated regularly.
While there are plenty of third-party file managers for Windows 11, Files stands out for its design, which closely resembles the operating system's native interface, its wide range of convenient features, and its regular updates. In addition to the stable version, Files also has a preview channel where users can try out upcoming releases and changes before they're released to the public. The latest update to Files Preview, version 3.9.9, has just been released, with a redesigned icon, a new cloud provider, faster performance, and other improvements.
The new logo is now available in Files Preview 3.9.9, and the stable version is expected to get the icon change in the coming months. In addition to the interface changes, Files Preview 3.9.9 adds performance optimizations to the Quick Access widgets on the Home page. The app also now supports two additional cloud storage providers: Magent and Sync.
Other notable changes include:
Shortcuts
- Fixed an issue that prevented folders with names ending in '.url' from opening properly.
Tile Start Menu
- Fixed display name for 'Files - Preview' tile in Start Menu.
Properties Window
- Fixed sidebar flickering issue when resizing properties window.
The Files Preview app is currently available for free on the official website, but you can also buy it on the Microsoft Store for $9.99 to support the developer. As for the stable version, the last update was released in January. Version 3.9 introduces a new layout and improvements to cards, tabs, and more.
