Microsoft released Windows Server version 2004
Earlier today, Microsoft officially released the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, also known as the 2004 version (Windows 10 version 2004), after a long delay. In parallel, Windows Server version 2004 is now available to users in the Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) program.
As revealed by Microsoft, the overall size of this update is smaller than both the download size and the operating system itself, at 1,865GB (download) and 4.05GB (on-disk). . Just make a small comparison with its predecessors like 1909 (2,257GB download - 4.97GB on-disk) and 1903 (2,311GB download - 5.1GB on-disk), you can see that Windows Server version 2004 Microsoft has been relatively impressive optimization.
You can use the following commands to obtain an image of Windows Server version 2004 from MCR:
docker pull mcr.microsoft.com/windows/servercore:2004 docker pull mcr.microsoft.com/windows/nanoserver:2004 docker pull mcr.microsoft.com/windows:2004
Windows Server version 2004 On the change front, one of the most notable tweaks to mention is that Server Core no longer optimizes the .NET Framework for performance. Instead, this procedure will be performed in the .NET Framework runtime image.
Indeed, Microsoft seems to be focusing solely on platform tweaking and optimization on this Windows Server update. Only minor changes, but done correctly can help the system boot faster, work more stably, performance is clearly optimized, and more. One of the factors that Microsoft will focus on optimizing in subsequent Windows Server updates is the Core Server containers. The goal is to be able to modernize traditional applications without taking up too much storage or bandwidth.
