Microsoft instructs on how to get new Windows 11 updates faster and earlier
This option was initially noticed as a hidden feature, and was introduced to Insiders on the Windows 11 Dev Channel last month. Microsoft currently implements a staggered rollout policy of new features, but with this option, users can be provided with such updates sooner and faster.
The company has published an accompanying support document to guide users to enable the option, found in the Settings app, specifically as follows:
We are committed to providing continuous innovation by releasing new features and improvements in Windows 11 more often. Windows devices will get new features at different times as Microsoft makes non-security updates, fixes, enhancements, and enhancements available through a number of carrier technologies. —including controlled feature implementation (CFR). With this method, updates can be rolled out gradually to devices.
The good news is that if you have Windows 11, version 22H2 or later, you can choose to receive the latest non-security and feature updates as soon as they become available to your device (currently and Future).
This option is simply called "Get the latest updates as soon as they're ready for your PC", which is pretty intuitive.
You can follow the steps below to enable the option:
Select Start > Settings > Windows Update and enable the Get the latest updates as soon as they're available option
- (Optional) Select Check for updates and if any updates are available to you, your device will download and install them. If prompted to do so, restart your device to apply the updates.
- Select Check for updates and if any updates are available, your device will automatically download and install them. If prompted to do so, restart your device to apply the updates.
You can also turn off this option if you don't want to receive updates right away. Note that security updates are not affected by this change. The option is also not enabled for managed devices such as those managed by Windows Update for Business or WSUS.
