Sergio Canavero, professor of Italian neurosurgery and director of Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, announced that his team was ready to proceed on the living body.
Success in head graft surgery on the body shows that new techniques for resumption of the spine, nerves and blood vessels developed by him will be effective. At the same time, this test also shows the goal of performing an operation in 18 hours by Canavero and his colleagues completely capable.
The first patient in the world to volunteer to participate in a head transplant surgery is Valery Spiridinov, a patient with spinal muscular atrophy. He has agreed to freeze his head and transplant into a new body from the donor source.
