Where to Find All 18 Armor Trims in Minecraft

Minecraft has 18 Armor Trim patterns in versions that include the Tricky Trials additions. Most templates come from structure chests, four are found by brushing suspicious gravel in Trail Ruins, Tide drops from Elder Guardians, and Flow and Bolt come from Trial Chamber vaults.

Armor trims are cosmetic. Applying one does not change the armor's defense, durability, or enchantments.

Trial Chamber trims

Flow

Flow templates are rewards from Ominous Vaults. Enter a Trial Chamber with the appropriate ominous effect, complete ominous trial spawners, obtain an Ominous Trial Key, and use it on an Ominous Vault.

Bolt

Bolt templates can be awarded by regular Vaults in Trial Chambers. Complete trial spawners to obtain Trial Keys, then open vaults that have not already rewarded your player.

Overworld structure trims

Sentry, Dune, Coast, and Wild

Sentry appears in Pillager Outposts, Dune in Desert Pyramids, Coast in Shipwrecks, and Wild in Jungle Temples. Desert Pyramid treasure rooms contain a TNT trap, and Pillager Outposts remain populated by hostile pillagers.

Ward and Silence

Both templates appear in Ancient City chests. Silence is notably harder to obtain. Move carefully around sculk shriekers, carry wool to reduce vibrations, and plan an escape route rather than fighting the Warden.

Vex and Eye

Vex templates are found in Woodland Mansion chests. Eye templates are found in Stronghold chests, so search libraries, corridors, and other chest rooms rather than only the End Portal room.

Tide

Elder Guardians can drop the Tide template. They spawn in Ocean Monuments, so bring underwater-breathing supplies, milk for Mining Fatigue if appropriate, strong armor, and a reliable way to enter and leave the structure.

Nether and End trims

Rib and Snout

Rib templates appear in Nether Fortress chests. Snout templates appear in Bastion Remnant chests. Wear at least one piece of gold armor around Piglins, but remember that Piglin Brutes remain hostile.

Spire

Spire templates are found in End City chests. You must reach the outer End islands after defeating or bypassing the Ender Dragon route, then locate an End City with loot rooms.

Trail Ruins archaeology trims

Wayfinder, Shaper, Raiser, and Host are obtained by brushing suspicious gravel in Trail Ruins. Use a brush and excavate slowly so ordinary blocks do not destroy suspicious gravel before it is checked.

How to duplicate an Armor Trim template

Once you find a template, duplicate it before using it if you want matching sets. The crafting recipe requires the original template, seven diamonds, and one block or item associated with that trim.

How to apply an Armor Trim

1. Open a Smithing Table.
2. Place the Armor Trim Smithing Template in the template slot.
3. Place a trimmable armor piece in the armor slot.
4. Add a valid mineral or material in the final slot to choose the trim color.
5. Preview the result and take the trimmed armor.

The template is consumed, which is why duplicating rare templates first is useful. The trim material changes the decorative color only; it does not add that material's properties to the armor.

Efficient collection tips

• Carry a brush for Trail Ruins and underwater supplies for Ocean Monuments.
• Store found templates safely before continuing through a dangerous structure.
• Record explored structures so you do not revisit empty chests.
• In multiplayer, divide the structure types among players and duplicate templates afterward.
• Check the game edition and version when a template does not appear; loot behavior can change between releases.
