What is the difference between an avatar and a Reddit profile picture?

Most Reddit users choose an avatar, which is a customized version of the platform's Snoo mascot. Thus, your avatar is a personal version of this little alien. Everyone has a default avatar that they can customize.

However, you can also use profile pictures on Reddit, just like any other social networking site. This involves uploading images you have from your device.

While you can create a Reddit avatar for free, there are also premium options for those who purchase them. Many of these options are NFTs, but there are also specific clothing or style items available to users who subscribe to Reddit Premium.

How to change your Reddit avatar

Styling your Reddit avatar is easy, and you can do it in the app or on the Reddit website.

To access your avatar style options on the app, follow these steps:

1. On the home screen, click the yellow avatar icon at the top right.
2. In the pop-up menu, select the Create Avatar button. If you already have an avatar, you can select the Style Avatar button instead.
3. Reddit will take you to its avatar store. To create your avatar using free elements, tap the Edit tab at the top.
4. Here you will be able to choose your outfit, hairstyle, facial features, etc. Once you have selected the elements, click Save > Confirm to display your new avatar.

The steps are similar on the website but the user interface is a little different.

To change your profile picture on the Reddit website, follow these steps:

1. Select the profile icon at the top right of the website and select Create Avatar.

2. You can use the Explore, Style and You tabs to add more elements to your avatar.

3. When you're done, click Save. Your profile will start displaying your new avatar.

Whenever you want to go back and edit your avatar, just click on your profile icon and select Style Avatar.

How to change your Reddit profile picture

The process of changing your Reddit profile picture is quite different from changing your avatar. To edit your profile photo, you need to access your profile settings.

Reddit profile pictures can be more personal, so you may not want to use them if you want to keep your Reddit profile private.

To change your Reddit profile picture on the app, follow these steps:

1. On the Reddit home tab, click the profile icon at the top right.
2. From the pop-up menu, select My profile.
3. On your profile page, click the Edit button. On the Edit Profile page, select the pen icon below your avatar.
4. To upload a profile photo, select the Pick image option. This will open your phone's gallery and you can choose an image from there.
5. Once you have selected an image, click the Add button.
6. Don't forget to click the Save button to update your profile.

This will save the new profile picture to your account.

To upload a profile to the Reddit website, the steps will be a little different:

1. On the Reddit home page, click your profile icon at the top right and select User Settings.

2. On the next page, select the Profile tab. Then scroll down to Avatar and banner image.

3. Select the plus icon to upload your profile photo. This will open the file explorer on your computer so you can select the image.

4. After your image is uploaded, your profile will automatically update with a new profile photo.

And that's all you need to do to customize your Reddit account profile picture. If you want to change it again, you can switch between your avatar or profile image. You can also restore your avatar to default if you want to start over.
