Google said it will expand its cloud services to five new areas and build three more underground cables, expected to be completed by 2019.

Google's Cloud platform is currently available in 13 regions including Tokyo, Taiwan, Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, London, Belgium, Frankfurt, Sao Paulo, Oregon, Iowa, Northern Virginia and South Carolina. Google estimates their system currently accounts for about 25% of network traffic.

Now this network will expand to Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Montreal, Netherlands and Finland. This means that companies in these areas are using Google's cloud platform and the G Suite service will get higher speeds, less disruption.

'In general, this investment will bring faster connection speeds for all users,' Google said. New areas will 'bring higher speeds, be ready for on-site computing, deploy and scale more flexible for applications and data'.

These cables, along with eight other cables, use Google's direct investment, along with many other cables they hire. Google also invests in Indigo - linking Australia, Indonesia and Singapore; PLCN connects Hong Kong and Los Angeles. Both will go into operation in 2019. Curie connects California and Chile.

Google owns the largest network today

Of the three cable lines, Curie is the only one owned by Google. They are also the first non-telecom company to own an international cable. As the sole owner, Google has complete control over Curie's design and construction.

In addition, they are also working with Facebook, producer of Aqua Comms underground network and industrial Bulk Infrastructure to build Havfrue, cable connecting America, east of Denmark and Ireland strait.

The technology giant cooperated with the TE Connectivity telecommunications contractor to build a cable line. TE has started calculating the path of the cable.

In addition, Google is working with telecommunications construction company RTI Connectivity and IT manufacturer NEC Corporation to build the HK-G Cable, linking Hong Kong and Guam.
