Gemini Live officially launched, competing with ChatGPT Voice
Google has finally launched Gemini Live, its conversational AI, months after introducing it at I/O 2024.
Gemini Live is not a traditional voice assistant or text-to-speech AI chatbot, but a free-flowing conversational AI that can interrupt and pause to continue the conversation later. This is a direct competitor to OpenAI's Advanced Voice Mode, which is currently only rolling out to a small number of alpha users.
Google has surpassed OpenAI and launched Gemini Live for all advanced users. Basically, you can sign up for Gemini Advanced for $20/month to access Gemini Live immediately. However, remember, Gemini Live is currently only accessible on Android phones and only in English. Google says Gemini Live will be available on iOS and more languages in the coming weeks.
Here's how you can access Gemini Live on your Android phone instantly.
How to access Gemini Live on Android phone
- . Google is currently offering one month of free access without any fees.
- Now, install the Gemini app (free) on your Android phone and launch the app.
- You will see the voice chat button in the lower right corner. Click on it.
- Now you can choose one of the voices and start your conversation with Gemini Live.
Please note that, for some users, Gemini Live may not work yet as Google is rolling out the feature slowly. On top of that, the ability to use the camera during Gemini Live chats is not yet available. Hopefully this feature will be available in the future.
