Game developers have new tools to evaluate the player experience
A "tool" that allows game developers to fairly accurately assess a player's experience with their product has been recently introduced by researchers at the University of Waterloo, and especially free.
Specifically, this tool, called The Player Experience Inventory (PXI), was designed to help game developers really understand how elements like storylines, gameplay, graphics, or effects how the sound . in their game product affects the player's experience, thereby offering remedies to make the game more engaging and perfect.
It is also the first free tool to provide brief, reliable feedback on how players experience the game.
"The lack of an accurate measurement of the player's experience makes it difficult for game studios to develop and finalize a product. They often have to rely on 'raw' data through feedback or feedback. Direct assessments are sometimes not complete and accurate, ' said Associate Professor Lennart Nacke, co-author of the PXI project.
Researching a gamer's experience often focuses on measuring, analyzing, and understanding how they feel to optimize game design. This is a kind of psychological survey. Experts in this field will primarily aim to understand how players experience specific game design options, especially how these choices evoke reaction. emotionally.
PXI is basically a breakdown of 10 types of overall gaming experience. By measuring many different elements of the game, the survey process will provide more insight, allowing game designers to better understand the impact of their design ideas on people. play in reality, as well as how they form different emotional reactions.
After the initial concept of PXI was developed with criteria gathered from 64 experts in game design, this tool has continued to be built, tested and evaluated over 4 years with participation. of with a total of 529 gamers worldwide.
Anyone who aspires to create the perfect game has the right to access and refer to the PXI tool. The tool was introduced to the gaming world recently through an article published in the International Journal of Human-Computer Studies.
