Facebook launches a new version of Messenger: Simple design, 2 times faster, 4 times lighter

The new version of Facebook Messenger for iOS has officially launched.

A few days ago, there was a report of Facebook developing and preparing to launch a new version of Messenger, with many changes and focus on minimalism. Today, Facebook officially launches a new version of Messenger for iOS, claiming that it is 2 times faster and the application size is only 1/4 of the previous version.

The design of the new Messenger version, as we saw in the previous article, simplifies with two tabs, Chats and People. The Discover tab has been hidden, and Stories of friends are also highlighted with large boxes.

Facebook said: 'The project to change the Messenger app is called Project LightSpeed, in which we rebuilt this application from scratch. Today, we will introduce to you a faster, smaller and simpler Messenger on iOS. The new Messenger will be 2 times faster and be only a quarter the size of the previous version. '

Facebook has simplified from 1.7 million lines of code to only 360,000, a reduction of up to 85%. Thanks to that, the new version of Messenger will bring a different experience.

Facebook said:

Faster: Faster application opening speed may not matter if you only open the application once a day, play games or watch movies. However, it will be a big difference if you often open the application repeatedly, to reply to messages, discuss business or chat with friends.

Smaller: A smaller size application is also of great significance. Because of that, the download, launch and update will be faster. Especially important for old devices, or where there is no high speed internet connection.

Simplicity: We've changed the application design to be simpler, while still having the necessary features, and providing a better user experience.

A new update of the Facebook Messenger app is now available on the App Store.
