Devices announced by Google at the Made by Google 2024 event
Let's find out everything Google announced at the event!
1. Pixel 9
Pixel 9 has a fresh look; This time, the camera bump is even more prominent, but no longer extends across the back of the phone. The phone now also has a flat edge design, similar to modern iPhones.
The main upgrades are in the display, camera and performance. The screen is now brighter than the old model, reaching up to 1,800 nits for HDR content (previously only 1,400 nits) and a maximum brightness of 2,700 nits (previously 2000 nits).
While the main wide-angle and front-facing cameras remain unchanged, the Pixel 9 now has a new 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera for sharper photos. Google has increased the RAM from 8GB to 12GB and the phone is now equipped with a Tensor G4 chip, which is aimed at improving AI performance. The Pixel 9 starts at $799 for the 128GB model.
2. Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL
The Pixel 9 Pro is available in two sizes: The standard model has a 6.3-inch display and the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display. Both models have the same design changes as the Pixel 9.
Both displays are brighter than the Pixel 9, offering up to 2,000 nits of brightness for HDR content and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits, making them some of the brightest phone displays on the market. school.
In terms of camera hardware, most features remain the same as the Pixel 8 Pro, except for the front camera. The Pixel 9 Pro now boasts a significantly improved 42MP selfie camera with a slightly wider field of view for better group selfies.
You can now record 8K videos with the rear camera, but there's a catch. The camera uses the Video Boost feature to upscale the video, so you'll need to wait a while for it to process in the cloud. In the meantime, you can see a lower resolution preview.
Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL have the same Tensor G4 chip combined with 16GB RAM, which is enough for all types of tasks. Users are especially excited about the Pixel 9 Pro, as compact Android flagship phones are quite rare these days. However, if you prioritize faster charging, the Pixel 9 Pro XL might be a better choice as it can charge up to 70% in just 30 minutes with a 45W charger.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL start at $999 and $1,099, respectively, for the 128GB version, with storage options up to 1TB.
3. Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Pixel 9 Pro Fold has received the most significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. The outer display has expanded from 5.8 inches to 6.3 inches, while the inner display now has much thinner bezels and measures 8 inches, making it one of the larger and slimmer folding phones. best. Both screens can reach a maximum brightness of 2,700 nits.
The camera setup remains largely the same, with just some minor upgrades to the front selfie cameras. However, the new AI photography features make up for the lack of camera upgrades. One such feature is Add Me, which allows you to take a group photo and then ask someone else in the group to take another photo. This feature will merge two photos, making it appear as a single group photo.
Another new AI feature is Pixel Screenshots, similar to Microsoft's controversial Recall feature. This feature uses on-device AI to remember screenshot content and allows you to get whatever information you need back from them using chat. These AI features aren't just limited to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold; they're available across the entire Pixel 9 line.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold also has a Tensor G4 chip and 16GB RAM for class-leading performance. With a new design and a screen size close to the iPad mini, it can now truly compete with the best folding devices on the market. Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a starting price of 1799 USD for the 256GB version.
4. Pixel Watch 3
The biggest downside of the Pixel Watch 2 is the lack of size options. The 40mm size seems a bit small for most tasks. Luckily, Google has solved this problem by adding a new 45mm version. And thanks to thinner bezels, you get 10% more screen real estate on the 41mm model.
Google has increased the brightness of the screen from 1,000 nits to 2,000 nits, making the screen much better for outdoor use. The screen can also dim down to just one nit in dark environments, ensuring that you or others are not disturbed in situations like watching a movie in a cinema. The larger screen also allows for more watch face customization and introduces some cool features, such as viewing the Nest Cam feed directly on the watch.
As for fitness features, the Pixel Watch 3 leverages AI to analyze and improve in-depth cardio workout routines. It monitors how hard your heart is working during your workout and can suggest when to rest or increase your pace, helping you avoid overtraining or undertraining. You can get even more personalized recommendations if you have a Fitbit Premium subscription.
The Pixel Watch 3 starts at $349 like last year for the 41mm version, and the new 45mm version will cost $399.
5. Pixel Buds Pro 2
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 may look the same as last year, but they've received significant upgrades inside. They now have the new Tensor A1 chip, which greatly improves active noise cancellation (ANC) and AI.
You can expect double the ANC performance and improved battery life compared to the previous generation. Additionally, Pixel Buds Pro 2 supports Google's Find My Device network, making it easier to track your headphones. However, at $229, Pixel Buds Pro 2 is $30 more expensive than the previous generation.
With all these upgrades, the Pixel line finally feels like a cohesive ecosystem, solving many of the problems encountered with previous devices. It's exciting to see where Google takes these devices in the future with Pixel Feature Drops and OS updates.
