On Friday night, a computer virus stopped Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the partner of the iPhone 2018's main processor for Apple.
According to information from TSMC, some of their manufacturing tools have been infected with malicious code, causing their factories to stop operating at least until Sunday.
TSMC had been attacked by viruses many times before but was so affected that factories had to stop working, this was the first time. This attack reminded many people of WannaCry and that the 2017 attacks of the virus forced a series of corporations around the world to temporarily shut down.
The cause of the problem is due to a mistake in installing new software. This error causes a computer to become infected with viruses and then quickly spread to the entire internal computer system.
TSMC representative said that the estimate of this incident will cause Q3 revenue to drop by 3% and profit to drop by 1% while affecting the pace of production of the A12 chip for iPhone 2018, which Apple expects to release in September here.
