ClearOS - Linux server web interface

1. Download and install
To get started with ClearOS, go to www.clearfoundation.com/Software/downloads and download ClearOS Enterprise, the size is about 700 MB corresponding to a CD. Once completed, you can burn it to a CD or test installation on a virtual machine. In this article, we use VirtualBox 3.1 virtual machine creation software. During the creation of the virtual machine, we selected the Operating System as Linux with Version as Other Linux .
After starting the virtual machine (or the real computer and installing from the CD), press the Enter key to start the installation process. The steps are very simple and quick, only a few notes when installing, that is:
• At the step of partitioning the hard disk, in the Warning dialog box, in the Delete & Install section , type ClearOS .
• At system mode selection, you select Gateway mode if you want ClearOS to act as a firewall in your system, then the server needs to have 2 network cards. If you choose Standalone mode , the system acts as a server on the network, then the server only needs one network card.
• If you want the server to take on what role, you choose that role. For example: DHCP, Web Proxy, VPN Server, Bandwidth Manager, Antivirus Server, Mail Server, FTP Server, Print Server, Database Server .
After less than 10 minutes, you are asked to reboot by the system, press this button to complete the ClearOS installation.
2. Initial configuration
When the system boots up successfully, the first login screen you encounter is a web interface with light blue and white colors. After logging in with the root user and the password entered during the installation, you proceed to the initial configuration operations such as: selecting the language for the system, setting the IP address, selecting the time zone, name domain, organization information.
3. System administration
In the ClearOS main screen, you can perform system administration operations in the left or above function pane. To administer user / group, go to the Directory menu and select the corresponding function. Here, you can also manage user profiles and perform import / export user functions.
Network function allows you to enter the computer name, set static or dynamic IP address for the system, set up DNS Server address, Default gateway to ensure ClearOS can connect to the Internet. Here, you can also configure firewall rules to allow external systems to access ClearOS.
The System function helps you grant system administration rights, adjust the time zone, the language used for the operating system, backup system configuration, and configure RAID. In addition, the Services submenu will allow you to manage the services that are running on ClearOS.
In the Reports menu, you can view a lot of information related to the system such as system overview information, network traffic information, hardware information, usage resources, and log system. system .
ClearCenter menu helps you register with ClearOS provider, thereby receiving free (or paid) support. After successful registration, you will easily update the system, install additional modules, install third party software, backup over the network .

4. Managing server services
Server services are organized at submenus in the Server function. For each server service, such as Database Server (MySQL), you can change the admin password, start / stop service, configure the same startup service, manage the service in detail: create databases, edit databases, add fields .
Or for Web Server, you can manage and publish websites, enable website security with SSL, allow users to upload website source via FTP .
