Chinese Internet users from now on cannot post content anonymously
More bad news for Chinese users. They will not be able to post anonymous comments online from October 1 this year. This is the latest in the government's move to tighten Internet controls.
According to the Chinese Network Administration CAC, websites like social networks and forums will have to identify the true identity of registered users before allowing anything to be posted or commented on. According to the South China Morning Post, comments will be censored by the website before appearing.
Page Zhihu, a talk page like Quora has also started asking users to authenticate by phone number (with links to identity cards). Anyone who does not authenticate will not be able to post anything on the page.
The CAC says the new rules are simply against counterfeit news. Online commentary has made 'fake rumors, vulgar language and illegal information' appear more and more '.
