How to Hatch Eggs in Pokémon GO

Learn where Pokémon Eggs come from, how Incubators and walking distance work, how Adventure Sync helps, and why hatch pools and Egg distances can change.

Table of Contents

To hatch an Egg in Pokémon GO, place it in an Incubator and walk the distance shown on the Egg's details page. The game records eligible movement while it is open, and Adventure Sync can count walking distance when the app is closed if the feature and required device permissions are enabled.

Egg distances, possible hatches and acquisition methods can change with events and seasons. Treat old hatch charts as historical examples and use the Egg view's hatch list for the current pool.

Where Pokémon Eggs come from

PokéStops and Gyms are common sources of Eggs when you spin their Photo Discs and have an open Egg slot. Gifts from friends, Team GO Rocket rewards, Adventure Sync rewards and limited events can also provide particular Egg types. A full Egg inventory prevents you from receiving another standard Egg.

How to incubate and hatch an Egg

  1. Open the main menu and select Pokémon.
  2. Open the Eggs tab.
  3. Select an Egg to view its required walking distance and possible hatch pool.
  4. Tap Incubate, then choose an available Incubator.
  5. Walk until the distance requirement is complete.

Every Trainer has an unlimited-use Incubator that can hold one Egg at a time. Additional Incubators may be earned or obtained from the Shop, but most have a limited number of uses. Super Incubators reduce the distance needed; they do not change which Pokémon can hatch.

Use Adventure Sync for background distance

The app does not always need to remain open. Adventure Sync can use compatible health and activity data from your phone to credit walking while Pokémon GO is closed. Enable it in the game's settings and allow the requested activity permissions. If distance is not updating, check those permissions, battery restrictions and whether the correct health account is connected.

Why driving does not hatch Eggs efficiently

Pokémon GO applies movement and speed checks when calculating walking distance. Fast travel may not count, so driving several kilometers is not a reliable shortcut. Walk at a normal pace and keep location services available. Never interact with the game while driving.

Understanding Egg distances

Eggs are labeled with a distance requirement, and different categories may be tied to different sources. Common categories have included 2 km, 5 km and 10 km Eggs, while other sources have offered additional distances. The available categories and their contents can change, so the number printed on an Egg is more reliable than an old fixed list.

The following image reflects an earlier hatch pool. It can help identify the original interface, but it should not be used as a current species list.

Seasonal rotations and events can add or remove Pokémon from a distance group. Check the current Egg's details before deciding which Incubator to use.

Longer-distance Eggs often have a different hatch pool, but distance alone does not guarantee a rare or powerful Pokémon. The displayed rarity tiers indicate relative likelihood within that Egg, not a guaranteed result.

What you receive when an Egg hatches

A successful hatch gives you a Pokémon along with Candy and Stardust. The exact rewards vary. Hatching is also useful for Pokédex progress and may provide Pokémon that are uncommon in the wild, especially during limited events.

Tips for managing Eggs and Incubators

  • Keep the unlimited-use Incubator active whenever you have an Egg.
  • Save limited-use Incubators for times when you want to hatch several Eggs together.
  • Check event announcements before incubating because hatch distance or hatch pools may temporarily change.
  • Review the possible-hatch list shown on each Egg instead of relying on an old chart.
  • Make sure you have an open Egg slot before spinning a source that may award a special Egg.
  • Use Adventure Sync for normal daily walking, but confirm that the distance has synced before troubleshooting.

Egg hatching works best as part of ordinary walking rather than as a reason to travel unsafely or keep the screen on. Incubate an Egg, verify that distance is being recorded and consult the in-game hatch list for the most current information.
