6 Hidden Gems on Apple TV+ You Can Watch Right Now
While shows like Ted Lasso and Severance get the lion's share of the attention, that's just scratching the surface. They're great shows, of course, but Apple TV+ has a whole backlog of hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
6. The Afterparty (2022 - 2023)
Solving a murder is the central theme of each of the two seasons of the comedy The Afterparty. In the first season, a pop star is murdered after her high school reunion. In the second season, it's a groom who faces an unexpected death shortly after his wedding. Both seasons feature Tiffany Haddish as a cold case detective who interviews a new suspect each week.
In total, The Afterparty has 18 episodes, 8 in the first season and 10 in the second season.
5. Acapulco (2021 - 2025)
For anyone who enjoys dramas with more than one timeline, Acapulco is the perfect choice. This bilingual comedy-drama tells the rags-to-riches story of Máximo Gallardo, who learns many life lessons as a young boy working in a motel in Acapulco in 1984. The story alternates between scenes set in the resort's past and the present.
4. Platonic (2023 - present)
Seth Rogen is currently starring in one of the most popular series ever to air on Apple TV+, The Studio. However, that's not the show I'm talking about here. Rogen's other show on the streaming service, Platonic, will also make you laugh, and it does so in every episode.
This is a hilarious comedy that currently has 20 episodes in 2 seasons. Hopefully it will return for a third season, because its content is very quality.
3. Disclaimer (2024)
In this psychological thriller, based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight, a profound story unfolds, exploring themes such as revenge, grief, and the multifaceted nature of truth. The film stars Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett as Catherine Ravenscroft, a woman whose life is turned upside down by events that occurred decades ago.
Disclaimer also stars Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Leila George, and Louis Partridge. This one-season miniseries consists of seven episodes.
2. Loot (2002 - present)
In the quirky workplace comedy Loot, Molly Wells, played by Maya Rudolph, undergoes a dizzying transformation after a surprise divorce leaves her with a whopping $87 billion fortune. The unexpected windfall forces her to veer between excess and altruism as she tries to adjust to her new life. There are plenty of laughs along the way.
Season three of Loot is scheduled to premiere later this year. The first two seasons have a total of 20 episodes.
1. Lessons in Chemistry (2023)
In the 1950s, Elizabeth Zott (played by Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson) is trying to make ends meet as a single mother after a tragedy. However, instead of succumbing to the patriarchal society of the time, she becomes a trailblazer for housewives around the world.
Lessons in Chemistry explores many themes throughout its eight episodes, including heartbreak, perseverance, romance, and feminism. Ultimately, however, it's just a story about one person trying to navigate an uncertain world day by day.
