1 million Chromebooks were sold in the second quarter
Chris Farinacci, Google's Global Marketing Manager, said about 1 million Chromebooks were provided to schools in the second quarter of 2014.
Farinacci also cites a paper from a personal blog by David Andrade , the principal of Bridgeport Public Schools in Bridgeport , Connecticut . Specifically, Andrade said his school has equipped Chromebooks for classes in the 4/12 main lecture halls. Bridgeport has used more than 9000 Chromebooks and Google applications for education.
Andrade said it chose Chromebooks instead of traditional laptops or desktops because of affordable prices and lower maintenance costs. In addition, instead of buying a desktop computer, users can "buy" about 3 Chromebooks and from there the school will benefit from saving the cost of teaching tools.
Recently, Google also increased the development of educational applications for Chromebooks ( these applications were previously reserved for Nexus tablets ). As such, teachers and students can find the applications, necessary documents and software like when they use their tablet to access Google Play for Education .
Google Play for Education is suitable for student-centered teaching needs. This kit provides teachers with materials and tools to use depending on the needs of students. People in education can use this tool to share Chrome apps with their students. New educational software from organizations like Scholastic, Discovery Education and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt with about 12,000 books are also provided. Some classes can even use Chromebooks to access YouTube with pre-screened content to suit educational goals.
