YouTube tests 'crazy' 4x video playback speed
YouTube lets you speed up videos up to 2x. However, the platform is now testing an exciting new playback speed of up to 4x.
Currently, YouTube users can fast-forward videos to 2x speed by adjusting the video settings or simply holding their thumb on the right side of the mobile screen. However, the new 4x option is being rolled out in a 'test' mode and is currently available to YouTube Premium subscribers on mobile. The 2x option will remain the preferred option in most cases, and the 4x option will require users to manually adjust the playback speed in the video settings menu.
This increased speed will allow viewers to fast forward through the video. For most videos, 1.5x or 2x is the ideal speed. Some types of videos, like slow-motion tutorials without voiceover, can be tested at 4x.

4x playback speed is now available on both Android and iOS devices for select Premium members through the experimental features section of the YouTube app. Users can access it by navigating to their profile page, then selecting Premium benefits and tapping Experimental features. These experimental features are rolled out for a period of time before Google makes a decision on whether to release them publicly or remove them.
