You may soon be using Microsoft's Cortana to control the temperature
Johnson Controls, the company developed the building's ventilation and fire detection management service, unveiled a smart thermal sensor with Cortana integration. The company introduced the device, named GLAS, in a YouTube video on Wednesday.
Similar to other smart thermal sensors like Google's Nest or Hive in the UK, GLAS can detect whether someone is in the room and tell you what air quality is. It also has a touch screen that allows you to check the temperature, air quality, energy levels and even calendar information. The main difference is that you can interact with it with Microsoft virtual assistant.
Thermal sensor integrates Cortana virtual assistant
Neither Microsoft nor Johnson Control have said the product will be sold to customers in the UK or the US and sold for how much. GLAS runs on Microsoft's Windows IoT Core, which is Microsoft's version of the flagship operating system, developed for small devices.
This thermal sensor is the latest product of MIcrosoft, using voice to support smart home. Creators Update on Windows 10 IoT Core released in March allows smart devices with screens to run Cortana. Maybe GLAS was born to show what you can do, as well as an indication that you'll soon see many smart devices with Cortana integration.
