Windows Phone 8.x and Windows 8 are no longer receiving application updates
Starting today, Microsoft will stop distributing application updates through Microsoft Store on Windows Phone 8.x and Windows 8 platforms. This was announced by the company last August.
Failure to distribute application updates on Windows Phone 8.x and Windows 8 platforms means that users cannot download the application completely for installation.
For Windows 10 Mobile users, they will still receive supported application updates for their builds.
Now Windows Phone 8.1 devices are eligible for an upgrade including Lumia 640 and 640 XL, officially not supported. To get updates, these devices need to run Windows 10 Mobile build 15063 and 14393 respectively. The problem is that users need to download and install the Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft Store, which allows users to activate their phones for Windows 10 Mobile, to be able to run Windows 10 Mobile.
Although Windows 8 is not distributed with application updates, Windows 8.1 will still receive updates until July 2023. Therefore, users need to switch from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.
If you are using Windows Phone 8.x or Windows 8 and still want to continue to receive any kind of application support through Microsoft Store, users need to upgrade their device now by upgrading the link now only through Microsoft Store.
According to the latest Microsoft report, although Windows 8 users cannot download the application, it can still be upgraded to Windows 8.1 via Microsoft Store.
