Windows 11 receives important update, fixes system 'crash' error when launching games

Microsoft is rolling out an out-of-band update for Windows 11 version 24H2. As recently as June 10, 2025, Microsoft released monthly cumulative updates for all supported operating systems, including Windows 10. However, many Windows 11 users did not receive this update due to compatibility issues with some games, prompting Microsoft to rush to fix the issue.

The Redmond company is now rolling out KB5063060 (build number 26100.4351) for gamers running Windows 11 version 24H2. Today's update is aimed at users whose games use Easy Anti-Cheat – a service built into some games to combat cheating and improve security.

According to Microsoft, the June 2025 security update for Windows 11 version 24H2 has a compatibility issue with Easy Anti-Cheat, which causes the operating system to restart automatically. Here's what Microsoft says in the release notes:

[Fixed incompatibility with Easy Anti-Cheat] This update fixes an incompatibility issue that could cause Windows to unexpectedly restart when opening games that use the Easy Anti-Cheat service. Easy Anti-Cheat is automatically installed with certain games to enhance security and prevent cheating in online multiplayer PC games.

While the issue sounds serious, the bug probably doesn't affect many users. In the release notes, Microsoft added that this month's Windows 11 security update, KB5060842, wasn't rolled out to users whose games used Easy Anti-Cheat. However, they're now able to get the latest security updates and bug fixes thanks to KB5063060. This update is cumulative, meaning it includes all the updates that came before it.

Interestingly, this isn't the only issue Windows 11 version 24H2 has with Easy Anti-Cheat. There's still a known bug that causes PCs with Intel Alder Lake+ and vPro chips to crash when launching games that use this anti-cheat solution. The compatibility hold for this bug is still in effect, and Microsoft says you can mitigate the issue by updating the game to newer versions that include the new Easy Anti-Cheat release.

KB5060842 is currently rolling out through Windows Update. The update is also available in the Microsoft Update Catalog .
