What is an ENC file?

Files with the ENC file extension can only be launched by certain applications. ENC files may be data files rather than documents or media, meaning they are not intended for viewing.

What is an ENC file?

An ENC file is a generic data file that stores encrypted information and saves it in one of several proprietary or standard formats. Typically, ENC files are encrypted to prevent users from modifying the data they contain or using them in unauthorized ways. However, some ENC files are encrypted to optimize them for a specific use, such as transmission over the Internet.

The ENC file extension is used by files in the UUenconded format, which means that they are encrypted. This also means that these ENC files contain protected data and are saved in this format, thus preventing unauthorized viewing and copying of the data. Computer users running on widely used Microsoft Windows systems such as Windows XP , Vista, and Windows 7 can decrypt, open, and view the contents of these files by installing Corel Win Zip 16 Pro.

This is an application that is classified as a file compression and decompression tool. When these files are decompressed using this program, the user must provide the correct decryption key to gain access to the contents of the files. Otherwise, this software will deny the user access to open and view the contents of the files.

How to open ENC file

Launch an ENC file or any other file on your PC by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that can open the ENC file will tell you what the file is about. You may need to download or purchase the correct application. It may also be that you already have the correct application on your PC, but the ENC files are not yet associated with that program. In this case, when you try to open the ENC file, you can tell Windows which application is the correct program for that file. From then on, opening the ENC file will open the correct application.

More information

In some cases, ENC files may be encoded using a standard encoding format. For example, some ENC files are encoded using the standard uuencode (.UUE) encoding. You can decode standard encoded ENC files with any program that supports the format in which they were encoded.

However, most ENC files are encoded using a proprietary encryption format. Only the program that creates and/or uses these ENC files can decode them and read the data they contain.

Many ENC files are not meant to be opened by the user. Instead, they contain encoded data that programs load when needed.
